The main problems with public transport in rural reas around Abergavenny are cost, frequency and integration.
Cost:
Return journey from Abergavenny to Llanover [3 miles] £6.20 as compares to a £7 ticket which takes you all over South Wales
Frequency:
X4/ 3 buses from Abergavenny to Brynmawr leave at almost the same time and then there is no service for an hour
There is no direct service to Crickhowell from Gilwern so on one occasion it took me nearly 6 hours to visit the doctor.
Integration
Trains into Abergavenny usually arrive 5 mins before buses leave up Heads of Valleys while the bus station is almost a half a mile away. I have visited Scandanavia,Germany and Switzerland all of whom integrate their services so you can move between bus, train ,ferry, trams etc seamlessly
These are the main issues your committe need to resolve if you are to wean people away from their cars ,one of which I have never owned.
